Hotel Review - The Old Hall Hotel, Buxton

Hotel Review - The Old Hall Hotel, Buxton

Earlier in the year we had travelled to the Lake District and stopped at Mosedale End Farm with the hopes of taking the balloon ride Lauren had booked for my 30th birthday. Unfortunately the weather wasn't suitable and the ride was cancelled. We decided therefore to re-book the balloon ride closer to home to avoid a lengthy and potentially disappointing journey so we chose Buxton instead which is only an hours drive in the beautiful Peak District.

The Old Hall Hotel, Buxton

We still decided to stop overnight and I chose the Old Hall Hotel which is located in the centre of Buxton and appeared to have reasonable prices. Yet again the weather proved unfavourable and our balloon ride was cancelled for a second time - we are hoping to re-schedule it for sometime next year so third time lucky! That being said we still had a brilliant weekend and enjoyed our time in Buxton and Bakewell. We even got to see the comedian Jimmy Carr perform live at Buxton Opera house totally by chance! That was definitely a highlight of our mini-break and we were so lucky that Lauren happened to check out the opera house schedule and pick the last two seats together in the auditorium!

I would have preferred to have been writing an article about the amazing balloon ride, but seen as that didn't happen, I have reviewed the fantastic Old Hall Hotel instead - Enjoy

Our room (the bed was made before we arrived!)

Location - The Old Hall Hotel has a fantastic location and can be found in the centre of Buxton right next to the beautiful Buxton Park. There are several pubs and restaurants in close proximity to the hotel, and the opera house is only a 20 second walk away too. The only problem was the lack of parking - there is several dedicated parking bays outside the hotel, and the street next to the hotel also has maybe 8 spaces available - we were lucky enough to snatch the last spot available on the side-street and the receptionist gave us a note to place in the car window to avoid being charged.

Our welcome cup of tea and biscuits!

Accommodation - Our room was beautiful - it wasn't the largest we have ever stayed in, but it was clean and comfortable. The bedroom had some gorgeous old furnishings and was decorated with class. The bathroom was modern and had laminate flooring and both a bath and a shower. We had a welcome tray that included a selection of tea and coffee and some delicious homemade biscuits - needless to say we made a brew and ate these within 10 minutes of being in the room! For what we needed we couldn't have asked for more!

Our cuddly room attendant

Breakfast - Our morning meal was absolutely amazing! I am not a huge breakfast fan but I still tucked in to cereal, croissants, toasts and crumpets while Lauren had a sumptuous full English. The breakfast was a buffet style but you could order cooked food too - you could choose from either a traditional English or Derbyshire breakfast, plus other options such as a croissant filled with ham and cheese. The buffet selection was great and contained juices, yoghurt and many different cereals. We also had a pot of coffee to accompany our cooked options. The food was cooked perfectly and the service was efficient - we literally had no complaints at all!

Modern bathroom complete with bath and shower

Summary

This hotel really was a pleasant surprise - the location was fantastic and we were literally a stones throw away from a brilliant pub and the opera house, the breakfast was top quality, and the accommodation was first rate too - I would recommend the Old Hall Hotel in an instant!
